Archery in Mexico // Akumal Beach Resort

Beginning of December my parents took Steve and I with them to Mexico!!!  We spent our vacation at Akumal Beach Resort... and guess what???? had a chance to shoot archery in Mexico!

My dad had talked about archery at the resort from one of their past trips (they had visited this resort before) so we were pretty excited to check it out.  When we arrived, we found out it actually had been shut down and closed because the staff instructor was no longer working at the resort! :(  A couple days later my dad actually convinced one of the staff to get out the archery gear and a couple bows for us and we were able to shoot for a couple hours (since we already knew what we were doing) as long as we kept quiet and on the down low. :)

Here's a few photos from our vacation in Mexico and our chance to use the archery range.  The equipment wasn't the greatest, it was a bit neglected and the bows had been left out in the heat, the draw length was too short for Steve, but we made the best of it ...and now we can say "we've shot archery in Mexico". Hah! :)

They will however be rebuilding an area of the resort and adding a new archery range... so we'll have to come back again!

Cecilia's 29th Birthday // Archery Shoot!

This past weekend I turned 29 years old. (yikes!!!).  We celebrated my birthday by inviting a bunch of friends out to spend a couple hours at the indoor archery range in New Westminster (Royal City Archers).  It was soooo much fun.

Thank you to everyone who came out to shoot... and hang out at Boston Pizza afterwards.  It was a blast spending my birthday with all of you!  Who knows.... maybe we got some of you "hooked" on archery too... the more, the merrier. :)

Also a Thank You to Royal City Archers for having us and teaching everyone how to shoot!

Archery on the Farm

We have been at it again... the weather has been so nice lately that we've been out at my parents-in-laws' farm again practicing like crazy.

I'm trying to not leave my recuve sitting around, so I brought out both the PSE Nova and Win & Win out to the farm.

Hope everyone has been getting out and taking advantage of this nice weather! :)

Archery on the Farm // New Compound Bows

Steve and I took up archery this year... so obviously we had to buy our own bows... of course! :)

Steve found his Bear "Game Over" actually through eBay... brand new with the tags on it still while we were taking our archery class and I bought a new Win & Win recurve around the same time.

Steve was interested in shooting in the 3D shoots that happen at a lot of the local clubs... so he looked around on craigslist for used bows and came across a used PSE Nova that would work for me.  I was hesitant at shooting a compound bow and didn't think I would like it that much, but I'm starting to use it more than my recurve! :)  I think the compound bow I tried in our archery class was probably a bit too high poundage for me and it was scary to shoot... but this PSE Nova is my draw length and a nice lower poundage (40#) so I'm not having any "scare" issues!  We've been out at my inlaw's farm a lot lately practicing, and I had my camera along so why not post some photos? :)

Boorman School of Archery

For the past few weeks, my husband Steve and I have been attending an archery course through Boorman Archery.  We have been under the instruction of some amazing teachers, Sheila and Muriel.  They were REALLY patient with all of us in the class, and had plenty of great advice and stories to share.

They took us through the basics and focused a lot on our form.  We had a chance to try out a few different types of bows... from recurve to compound, and even a long bow!   I gave myself some pretty interesting arm bruises along the way, but it was still a great learning experience.  It was great to be able to be learn proper form and start out in archery focusing on the basics rather than getting wrapped up in the gear and equipment first (especially when you have no idea what you want/need at first!).  That way we walk away with advice and knowledge to start out!

Yesterdy was our last class, so I brought along my camera to take a few photos.  We "graduated" and earned our certificates from Boorman School of Archery too!

If you’re interested in archery, I would highly recommend taking a class like this through Boorman Archery!   It was really a lot of fun and a great experience!

PS.  For those that are interested in the archery course and live in the Lower Mainland, BC – you can sign up and register at Boorman Archery in New Westminster, BC.  The course takes place a couple doors down at Royal City Archers.
