13th Annual Father's Day 3D Shoot // Highland Valley Archers

We spent this past weekend in Logan Lake, BC for the Father's Day 3D Shoot hosted by Highland Valley Archers.  They did such a great job setting up 2 amazing courses!  (they sure like to include logs as obstacles!) :) This was our first time attending, but a lot of our friends from our club at Semiahmoo have been in the past.  It was a weekend full of archery, sunshine, mosquitos and moose meat! haha.

Friday afternoon we drove up in our tiny Chevy Aveo and it did surprising quite well up the Coquihalla Hwy packed full with our gear, bows, cooler, clothes and stuff loaded in the back.

Saturday morning we started off the day on Course A and it was awesome! I ended up with ten 10's and even beat Steve (my husband) by 2 points... which is rare.  (Don't worry, that winning streak didn't last long.)   I dropped in score that afternoon on Course B which either felt a bit more difficult to me or I was just tired, so I made dumb little mistakes and was having an issue judging the distances on a couple far shots.  We ended off the last few targets on Course B with a freak thunderstorm, rain and even hail!  So we were nice and soaked by the time we got back to camp.

That evening we ended off the day with a potluck and ate delicious moose ribs for dinner! I didn't take any photos of the food... but trust me, it was good!

Sunday morning I woke up and wasn't feeling so great.  I actually got pretty sick and it definitely showed in my shooting (and score) the rest of the day.  (Most of the time I just felt like lying down in the grass and taking a nap! haha).  Course A was horrible... nothing like I did the day before.  I dropped by 30 points from my first day.  We found out after finishing that I had been shooting from the wrong peg the whole weekend.  (Guys compound shoot from the red peg, and Ladies shoot from the blue peg which was actually closer!).  Oh well, usually my category never shoots "closer" so that's why we never even bothered or thought to check! :)  All in all I probably would have had a better score if I actually shot at the same peg as the other ladies in my category, but I still had a blast and it was fun for the challenge.  It can't always be about getting a ribbon or being in first place. :)   I did however end up in 3rd place... which I have to admit is also last place... bahaha!  I still walked away with a sweet camo Highland Valley Archers hat for 3rd so it's all good.  Big thank you to Highland Valley Archers for hosting and putting on such a great weekend!

Sunday I also brought along my Nikon DSLR for the first half of the day... (tired of taking photos on my iPhone and tiny cheap camera) :)  We started out with a shotgun start out on Course A at target 12... which was the two moose out under the power lines in the clearing...

Gus taking a nap... it's tiring walking 16kms! :)
My Nikon DSLR camera started feeling REALLY heaving around lunch time... anything feels heavy when you walk a total of 16 kms worth of courses for the weekend!...  so I packed it away and brought out my cheapy little Sony camera... these following photos are from it - not the greatest quality, but fun to have some more shots!
